We had two great results in Pearse Park on Sunday evening in the junior and senior championship semi finals. First up our junior team faced up to Longford Slashers in a repeat of last years final. A close first half saw Slashers lead by the minimum margins on a score of 6 points to 5 at the break. However a great start to the second half saw us pile on the pressure. We eventually ran out convincing winners 5-15 to 10 points. Captain John Conlon led the scoring with 1-5, closely fololoed by David Mimnagh with 2-3 to his name. Others to find the net were John Kiernan and Sean Maguire. Well done to all involved in what was a great all round team performance.
Next up were our senior team who took on Dromard. A first half goal by Mark Hughes as well as fine points by Sean McCormack, Roanan McGoldrick and others saw us lead 1-7 to 7 at the break. A second half goal by Simon Kiernan and excellent points by Liam Hughes and Danial Mimnagh saw us run out winners on a score of 2-11 to 10 points. In what was a fine team performance overall, worthy of mention was Cillian Burns who had an excellent game between the sticks in keeping his net intact.
We now look forward to two county finals with the junior game this coming Sunday and the senior one on the 4th of October. Good luck to the juniors this weekend.
Also in the county final this coming Saturday are our ladies senior team who face Clonguish in a repeat of last years final. Time to get the flags out and get behind our young men and women.
Please see fixtures section for the times of both games.
