Senior Club Notes 15th June 2015

On Saturday evening last we collected our first silverware of the year with a very late and hard fought victory over a very determined Abbeylara team in splendid conditions in Ballinalee. Trailing through out and not looking like winning, we found ourselves 2 points down with 59 minutes on the clock. However up stepped super sub, Jamie King to plant an unstoppable shot in the Abbeylara net which swung the tide our way. We went on to register another goal in injury time from Shane Tully and points from Terry McCormack and Eugene Clarke to leave the final score an unlikely 2-14 to 2-8. Well done to captain Paddy Thompson and all his team mates who hung in there in a very tough game and kept going right to the end.

On Thursday evening last our reserve junior team contested the league semi final away to Young Grattan’s. In a highly entertaining game we held a commanding half time lead. However Grattan’s finished very strongly with several good young players on their team to reel us in point by point,  to actually lead by a point as  full time approached. However Sean Maguire stepped up in injury time to land a marvellous long range point to send the game to extra time. With the teams still level at half time in extra time, Grattan’s youth again told in the second period as they registered two points to record victory on a final score of 3-18 to 3-16. Hard luck to team and management on the result, but well done on playing your role in an excellent open game of football.

Next week sees the start of our senior B championship campaign for 2015 when we are at home to Colmcille on Sunday at 12pm. All support greatly appreciated.

Good luck to Mickey Quinn and the Longford team in the qualifiers against Carlow on Saturday evening.
