Senior Club Notes 12th March 2018

Hard Luck to our instrumental music team in senior Scòr who were narrowly beaten by a team from Wexford in the Leinster final on Sunday last in Dublin. Well done to the team of Padraig Walsh, Marie Brady and Paddy Collumb as well as their mentors on reaching a Leinster final. Indeed many neutrals in the crowd on Sunday evening felt we deserved victory, but alas it wasn’t to be.

Our under 20 team kicked off the season on Friday night last with a fine win at home over Colmcille. Final score 2-10 to 1-9. Well done to all involved.

Our annual 5 and 10 K road races took place on Sunday last in Glorious conditions and were well attended. We had everything from professional runners to professional Mums and Dads sporting buggies, mixed with everything in between taking part in what was a very enjoyable event. There were some fantastic times posted in both the 5 and 10K. A full run down of the times etc are available on our facebook page. Well done to all who took part and major thanks to all who assisted in organizing the event and our wonderful stewards without whom it would not have been possible.

There were great celebrations in New York City on Saturday last where two of our finest supporters Frank Rowley and Dympna Lennon were honored by the Longford Society at their annual St Patrick’s Day Ball, in recognition of their contribution to the lives of all Longford people in New York. Frank of course hails from Esker and played both club and county football at all grades for Killoe and Longford before making New York his home in the 80’s where he continued to contribute handsomely to longford life and the Gaa scene in general in his new home land. He continues to support us at every opportunity and is prone to writing the odd balled to celebrate our success’s. Dympna is of course married to Kevin Lennon, another family synonymous with Killoe football and both are still keen Killoe supporters. Congratulations to you both.

Our lotto draw took place on Sunday night in Begleys bar for a jackpot of €11,600. The numbers drawn were 1,4,13 and 29. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were Maree Kiernan, Kiltyreeher, Pat McQuaide, Bawn, Mickey Begley, Rebecca Murphy, Colmcille and Gerry/Ann and Kathy C/O Milos bar. This weeks sellers prize went to Frank Toher. Next week sees the jackpot rise to €11,700 with the draw in The Olde Forge on Sunday night.

Finally we offer our sincerest sympathies to Tom Brady, Longford and family on their tragic bereavement last week.
