On Saturday evening last our senior team travelled to Drumlish to take part in the Leader cup final in what was a very physical and tight game against a determined Dromard team. In a game that was dominated by a gale force wind blowing straight down the pitch, Dromard set out with the wind at their backs in the first half to atone for their defeat by Killoe in the championship semi final. However despite hitting our lads with everything they had, we found ourselves in the lead at half time on a score line of 1-4 to 5 points with Larry Moran scoring a magnificent goal. The second half continued in the same vain, and despite our lads opening up an early lead, Dromard fought their way back into the game to leave the scores level approaching full time. However a magnificent point under pressure from Sean McCormack in the last minute followed by a late goal by Paddy Thompson saw us finally record victory. Final score Killoe 2-9, Dromard 1-8. Adding the leader cup to the Sean Connolly cup for the second time in three years is a magnificent achievement which is not to be underestimated, particularly with the extremely physical nature of how the leader cup semi and final turned out. Well done to all the senior panel and management.
As things stand this has been the most successful season ever for our senior club with 4 cups captured, the Senior A and Senior B Championships, the Leader Cup and the Reserve 1 League. Well done to everyone involved in all panels, not forgetting our junior team who unfortunately lost out in the championship final.
Hard luck to our ladies team who eventually bowed out of the Leinster senior championship at the semi final stage on Saturday to the reigning champions Sarsfields from Laois.
Our U21 team kick off their championship this coming Saturday evening at 7pm at home to a Kenagh/Moydow amalgamation.
On Saturday night last in the Olde Forge we launched our upcoming fundraising event Jigs ‘N’ Reels which will take place in the Longford Arms on Saturday night the 6th of December. The dance partners for the event were chosen at random from those who had agreed to take part and are as follows, 1. Annette Drake/Kiernan and James Edgeworth , 2. Anne McCabe and Aiden Gray, 8. Mandy Stewart and Eddie Clabby, 9. Mary Kiernan and Paul McCarthy , 10. Patricia Hourican and Daniel Mimnagh, 11. Niamh Begley and Terry McCormack, 12. Nikki Tully and Paul Belton and finally Number 13, our wildcard entry picked from those present on Saturday night , our very own Eugene Murphy and Catherine Grey. We wish all participants, particularly all those from our fellow clubs in county Longford all the best in the busy bootcamp weeks ahead as they strive to get their moves right for the stage in 7 weeks time.
Our lotto draw took place on Sunday night and the numbers drawn were 11,17, 20 and 27. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were Colin Gilna, C/O Paul Gilna, Kate Gilna, C/O Paul Gilna, Rachel Stewart, Aidan Brady, Boher and Liam Halpin, Carrowbeg. Margaret McCormack scooped this weeks sellers prize.
