Senior Club Notes 9th May 2016

On Sunday last in glorious conditions we hosted a fun filled family day at Emmet Park in conjunction with the Gaa nationally to celebrate Là Na gClub. Events kicked off at 1pm with Under 8, 10 and 12 blitzes with our future stars showing some excellent skills across the 3 pitches. This was followed by challenge games for our silky junior team and excellent ladies team who showcased their own talents.

Throughout the day we ran fun filled activities for children with several skills competitions, etc. Events at the pitch culminated with the playing of the Mìchael Kiernan memorial cup and on what will be the 20th anniversary of Mìchaels untimely passing we had the honour of recapturing the cup from last years victors Fr. Manning Gaels in what was a very sporting encounter. The senior teams were led onto the pitch by St Theresa’s school band who performed a rousing rendition of our national anthem and both teams were given a guard of honour by our under 6 team. The day finished with an memorable trad session in the Olde Forge.

We would like to thank all who helped in making the day a tremendous success starting with Seamus and Florence Connell who provided a field for parking, Suzanne Tully, face painting, DJ Paul Brady, photographer Gerry Rowley, All the individuals who acted as stewards on the day, our shopkeepers, Heterichs fast food and all who assisted with the various teams. We would like to also recognise our ladies and minor clubs who rowed in behind the event and gave it their full support.

On Saturday evening last our junior team had a fine win over Clonguish in the league and are sitting top of this competition after 5 games. This coming weekend our reserve 1 team are at home to Abbeylara on Saturday evening at 7pm.

Best wishes to Longford who open their Leinster championship campaign on Sunday next against Offaly.

Our Lotto draw took place on Sunday night and the numbers drawn were 5, 10, 17 and 20. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were  James Keogh, Clontumpher, Ciaran O Connor, Bawn, Dessie McGoldrick, Ennybegs, Eamon Keogh, Ohill and Aaron Fitzpatrick, Lettergunnell. This weeks sellers prize went to Frankie Toher. Next week sees the jackpot reach the round figure of €2,000 with the draw in Begley’s on Sunday night.

Finally we offer our deepest sympathies to the Tynan family on the death of Peter last week. May he rest in peace
