Senior Club Notes 8th June 2015

Ourselves and Longford Slashers got to know each other very well last weekend with our senior and junior teams meeting in the Division 1 and 3 of the All county Leagues. On Saturday evening our senior lads travelled to Michael Fay Park, and having played against a gale force breeze in the first half, found ourselves only two points behind at half time on a score of 2-5 to 2-3. Mickey Quinn and Larry Moran found the back of the net but the man most responsible for keeping it so close was Shane Fitzpatrick who produced some magnificent saves in goals. In the second half, aided by the strong breeze we pushed on to a fine victory on a score of 4-10 to 2-8. Larry Moran from a penalty and Paddy Kiernan scored second half goals to seal the victory. All players played well but worthy of mention is Liam Hughes who has broke onto the senior team this year and who had a fine game at corner back as well as Shane Fitzpatrick in goals.

On Sunday afternoon our junior lads also travelled to MIchael Fay Park for a 2pm throw in against Longford Slashers in division 3. After a tit for tat opening quarter, Slashers pushed ahead to lead by 8 points to 6 at half time playing against the breeze. Our defence were very much under the cosh in the second half but some fine defending and last gasp clearences ensured that there was only 4 points between the sides nearing full time. Some fine frees by Jamie King brought us back within a point as injury time elapsed and then we launched the most decisive move of the game. In a move started with our goal keeper, Shane Tully was involved several times in a move that went the whole length of the pitch to finally plant  an unstoppable shot in the roof of the Slashers net which saw us record a fine victory on a score of 1-13 to 14 points. Well done to all involved in what was a brave and committed team performance from  1 to 15. We wish Matt Clarke all the best with his injury he picked up in this game.

We have anther very busy and important week ahead with our junior reserve team contesting the league semi final this coming Thursday evening against Young Grattan’s in Dunbeggan at 8pm. With Grattan’s comprehensively beating us earlier in the league we are very much second favourite going into this game and only a dramatic change of fortunes will see us through. On Saturday  evening we contest the reserve league 1 final against Abbeylara. The game is in Maguire Park Ballinalee at 7.20pm. Good luck to both teams.

Our lotto draw took place in Begleys Bar on Sunday night and the numbers drawn were 1,16,18,29. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were Eamon  McDunphy, Cloontagh, Newtownforbes,  John McKenna, Ohill, William Quinn, Mary McManus, Dernacross, Natasha Loughrey, Ennybegs.

This weeks sellers prize went to Jimmy Halpin.

Finally a club meeting will take place this Wednesday night in the clubhouse at 9pm.
