Last weekend was a busy weekend on the playing fields with 3 of our teams in action. First up on Friday evening our senior team travelled to the Laurels to face the home side in a repeat of last years county final. In a game in which we twice held commanding leads, the home side battled back to secure a draw at the death on a score of St Columbas 2-8, Emmet Òg 1-11.
On Sunday our junior team welcomed Granard to Emmet Park in round 3 of the league and recorded a comprehensive victory over a very depleted Granard side. Final score Emmet Òg 4-21, Granard 4 points.
On Monday our reserve junior team took on Sean Connolly’s also in the league. We travelled to Ballinallee with very small numbers and at the throw in just had the bare 13. However our lads battled bravely and thanks to magnificent performances from players like Paul Brady, James Reilly, Joe Maloney in particular we achieved an unlikely victory on a score of 3-12 to 1-7. All 13 players who turned up had fine games on a very heavy pitch with John Kiernan and Seamus Lynch scoring the goals. Thanks to the 13 players that turned up, especially all who had played the junior game on Sunday also. Indeed it is worth mentioning that both Gerry Carberry and Seamus Lynch played with significant injuries and had to last the entire game.
Well done to all involved in running the very successful fundraiser ‘The Kube’ for St Theresa’s National school on Saturday night. It was a very enjoyable night with our own Ronan McGoldrick almost claiming victory.
Our lotto draw was held over until Monday night due to the bank holiday weekend. Full results next week.
