Preparations are well and truly under way for our upcoming fundraising event Jigs ‘N’ Reels which is taking place in the Longford Arms Ballroom on Saturday night the 6th of December 2014. Dancers representing most clubs in the Parish as well as several of our own will form the couples who will take part on the night for the title of Killoe’s inaugural dance champions. Tickets at €10 each will be on sale this coming week with club members hoping to visit every home in the Parish with the offer of tickets for this exciting event. The champions on the night will be decided by votes cast by those in attendance.
This coming Sunday our senior team travel to nearby Cusack Park in Mullingar to take on Westmeath champions Garrycastle in the first round of the Leinster championship. In a game that we go into as major underdogs, we hope to have good support on the day, and who knows, with a bit of luck we could cause an upset. Throw in is at 2pm. Good luck to team and management.
On Friday evening last our under 21 team had a fine win over Western Gaels in round 2 of the championship on a score of 3-13 to 4 points. This leaves us with only Ardagh to play in the group stages but with two wins under our belts we have progressed to the knockout stages. Well done to all involved.
Last week saw a big increase in the number of people playing our club lotto on line and we wish to thank all the new participants. With success comes expense and thankfully 2014 has been an expensive year for the club. Our club lotto is our main source of income week by week and without it we would not survive. We thank all patrons who play the lotto, either weekly in our shops and pubs, through club members or on line through our website at http://www.killoegaa.ie. Tickets are available each week at €2 per line with the jackpot increasing by €100 per week. Additionally we have five €20 lucky dip winners each week as well as one €20 sellers prize.
This weeks lotto draw took place in The Olde Forge for a jackpot of €4,400. The numbers drawn were 7, 14, 17 and 30. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were James Keogh, Clontumpher, James Hynes, Lisryan, Nellie McGoldrick, Ennybegs, Cillian Burns, Newtownbond and Michael Lynch, Clonrollagh. This weeks sellers prize went to Brendan McCormack. Next weeks draw on Sunday night in Begleys bar for €4,500.
Finally huge congratulations to our two senior captains, Edel Quinn and Joe McCormack who announced their engagement at the weekend. Surely with matches like this within the parish, the future is bright. Good luck with the wedding preparations.
