KILLOE GAA

Senior Club Notes 28th May 2018

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of our fabulous facilities at Emmet Park and to mark the occasion we have a weekend of festivities planned over the June Bank Holiday weekend. On Saturday we kick off at 11am with an under 10 blitz featuring 16 teams from all over Connaught, Leinster and Ulster. We will be welcoming the cream of the crop in terms of football clubs to our grounds to take part in this competition with our own lads hoping to capture the trophy in this inaugural under 10 competition. This will be followed by a girls under 10 blitz before the pitch activities for the day will end with a ladies senior game as they take on Young Grattens in the gold cup semi final at 7pm.

On Sunday we kick off at 12pm with an under 12 challenge followed by an under 14 game. Then the main attraction when our seniors play Roscommon Gaels for the Michèal Kiernan memorial cup at 3pm.

Following this we will return to the Olde Forge at 6.30pm where we will host an evening of traditional song and dance. We invite all our young superstars to being their guitars, banjos, whistles or bodrauns and entertain us with their talents. This will run until 9pm approximately when our minor club ‘Strictly Karaoke’ fundraiser will kick off.

There is surely something here to interest all our supporters and we hope that events over the two days will be well supported.

Well done to the Longford senior team on their fine win over Meath in the Leinster championship on Sunday.

On Wednesday last our junior reserves had a good win over Colmcille 2-10 to 1-10 on Wednesday last while our senior reserves beat Abbeylara 3-12 to 1-12 on Friday evening. Well done to both.

Good luck to our representatives playing for Longford in the under 17, under 20 and junior football championships this week.

Our lotto draw took place in The Olde Forge on Sunday night and the numbers drawn were 10, 24, 28 and 35. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were John Kiernan, Megan Caherly, New York, Gerard Connolly, C/O Milos, Nellie McGoldrick, Ennybegs and Shane Donohoe, Kelleter. This weeks sellers prize went to Aidan Quinn. Well done to all the winners and thanks to all who supported our draw. Next week sees the jackpot rise to €12,800 with the draw in Begleys bar n Sunday night.

Finally this week we offer our deepest sympathies to the Hagan family on their bereavement last week.
