Senior Club Notes 26th October 2015

We got our Leinster championship campaign off to a fantastic start on Sunday last with an emphatic victory over Saint James of Wexford. A lightning start saw Mark Hughes rattle the back of the net for the first score before further first half goals by Sean McCormack, Larry Moran and Denis McGoldrick left it almost game over at the break when we held a commanding 4-6 to 1 point lead. A second half penalty and some excellent late points by captain Mickey Quinn and Paddy Kiernan saw us eventually record a fine win on a score of 5-11 to 1-4. Well done to team and management. No doubt there will be bigger tests ahead. We are due to play the Meath champions on Sunday week in round 2 also at home.

This coming weekend our under 21 team are away to Clonguish on Friday evening at 8.30p.m. in the championship while our senior team are at home to Abbeylara on Sunday in their final league game at 2p.m. This is a hugely important game with both teams level on 18 points at the top of the table heading into the game. So in a repeat of the recent county final, its winner takes all in terms of the league. Good luck to both our under 21 and senior teams.

Fresh from his appearance on Friday nights late late show, Mr Patrick Fenney will be headlining our Christmas fundraising event ‘Beat in the Barracks’ on Friday night the 4th December 2015. Tickets for the Friday night only are currently available at €15 each to purchase in Farrell and Coy in Longford as well as locally in the coming days. No tickets for Saturday nights show, Brave Giant and DJ Justiy will not be offered in advance with tickets available on the door.

Our lotto draw took place on Sunday night and the numbers drawn were 4,13,20 and 24. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were Michael Hurson, Ballinamuck, Ronan McGoldrick, Ennybegs, Shane Clarke, Ohill, Laurie Walker, Pat The Baker and Pat Mollaghan, Longford. This weeks sellers prize went to Margaret McCormack. Next weeks draw for a jackpot of €2,200 will take place on Sunday night in the Olde Forge. Thanks again to all who support our weekly lotto which is our only week to week source of funding and vital in keeping our club afloat
