Senior Club Notes 23rd November 2015

Unfortunately our Leinster championship voyage came to a shattering end in Portlaoise on Sunday afternoon last. Going into the game as hot favourites, Portlaoise certainly thought us a lesson in how to play football winning in clinical fashion on a score of 5-12 to 11 points. After an excellent start with fine points by Danny Mimnagh and Sean McCormack, Portlaoise struck two killer goals in as many minutes mid way through the first half to shatter our fine start. We again started the second half in great form to narrow the gap to 3 but this was followed by two early second half goals for Portlaoise to put the matter out of reach. Well done to the lads who battled bravely to the bitter end but we could not make any head way into the Portlaosie lead. They put the icing on the cake in the final minutes with another goal. It just wasnt to be on the day and we can have no complaints. We were beaten by a stronger, sharper, hungrier and more clinical team who took their chances when they came. We wish them every success in the Leinster final.

Well done to Kilashee who qualified for the Leinster junior final on Sunday last.

This coming Wednesday evening we are at home to Colmcille in the leader cup semi final. Throw in is at 8.30p.m.

Congratulations and well done to Michael Quinn who played a large part in Ireland’s victory over Austarlia in the Aussi Rules test game on Saturday evening last. Mickey brought great drive to the game while on the pitch, and what a proud moment for himself, his family and his club to see him starting at midfield.

Now that the football is drawing to an end it is time to focus on our upcoming major fundraiser, ‘Beat in the Barracks’ which is taking place in the Old Army Barracks on Friday and Saturday nights the 4th and 5th of December. On Friday evening we have the brilliant country star Patrick Feeney live on stage while Saturday night has a younger line up with brilliant local band Brave Giant opening events followed by DJ Justiy of I radio fame. Tickets are priced at €15 for each night with tickets for the Friday night on sale in advance. Tickets for Saturday night will be available only on the door. Tickets are available in all our local shops and pubs, from any committee member or in Farrell and Coy’s’ in Longford town. We hope to have a large crowd in attendance both nights and are hoping to attract Christmas Parties over the weekend. The event will be staged indoor in a heated marquee with full bar services available. Please shear this info with your friends and family and encourage them to support the event and attend on either night.
