Senior Club Notes – 22nd December 2014

Our annual Marrieds V Singles charity game will again take place this Saint Stephens day at the earlier time of 1p.m. Admission is optional and all money raised will be donated to Saint Christophers centre in Longford.

Our Agm is fixed for Sunday  the 4th January at 3pm. All club members please attend. Our dinner dance will take place in the Longford Arms on Saturday night the 31st January 2015. Tickets will be available shortly.

As 2014 comes to a close, we look back on a year that has been the most successful ever for our senior club, finishing the year with the senior A, senior B and under 21 championship trophy’s, The Leader cup and the reserve league 1 all resting in Killoe.

This didn’t happen by accident and is testament to the hard work put in by all involved, particularly our management teams, Tommy McCormack, Mick McKeown, John Bracken and Gerry Carberry at senior level, James McGolderick and his selectors at senior B and John Reilly and his crew at junior level. Indeed we were unlucky not to complete an unprecedented quadruple of championships with our juniors losing out in the final. It is hard to believe that with 4 different teams competing in the various senior championships, we only lost one championship game in 2014, that being the junior championship final.

Well done also to all the players who gave so much throughout the year. Huge thanks to Tommy McCormack, John Bracken and Mick McKeown who have now stepped down. Where in Ireland would one find a better manager than Tommy McCormack who has proved himself time and time again.

We look forward to an exciting year ahead with Declan Rowley, Thomas Donohoe and Gerry Carberry taking over the management of our senior team and we wish them every success.

Off the pitch we had several very successful events throughout the year, particularly our 125th anniversary celebrations at the end of August and our Jigs N Reels fundraiser in early December. Both events were well supported and enjoyed by all in attendance. We also undertook major redevelopment work in Emmet Park in 2014, draining our underage pitch to make it a year round facility and enhancing our car park and entrance from the main road to improve safety.

Our website again went from strength to strength and was recently voted the best Leinster Gaa website of 2014. Well done to Paul Devaney who recently redesigned the site and all who work on it week in week out keeping it up to date, relevant and interesting.

On behalf of club chairman Jimmy Halpin and all his executive team we wish to thank sincerely all who have helped us out in so many ways during 2014, from all the stewards who helped park cars at matches and managed  crowd control within Emmet Park during games, to all who stepped in as linesmen or umpires at short notice, to our physios Tony Coffee, Sean Clarke, Jimmy McCormack and Brid McGoldrick, to Roisin Moffitt for her catering expertise all year, to the county board and particularly Longford county secretary Peter Reilly for all his assistance through out the year not forgetting our club sponsors, main sponsor Paul Rowley and his Admore company in New York, The Olde Forge Bar, Begleys Bar and Coys Bar, Barney Mahon motorfactors, Seamus Flynn and Sean Maguire who all sponsored various items for our teams throughout the year. Also thanks to our lotto team who worked diligently all year in promoting our lotto.

We would also like to thank all who helped out organising our various events all year, particularly Marie McCormack who did an excellent job on our recent jigs N reels night.

Finally a big thank you to all who supported us in what ever way through out the year, by either attending matches etc, or by supporting us financially through our club lotto or other fundraising events we ran this year. Our lotto jackpot was won twice this year and we congratulate both winners Jan Andrews and Mary Hughes. Please bear in mind that our lotto is available to play on line through our website at http://www.killoegaa.ie and can be purchased on line as a gift for a third party.

Our Christmas lotto draw took place on Sunday night with double prizes on offer. The numbers drawn were 2,21, 27 and 29. There was no jackpot winner. €20 winners were Patsy Duke, Annally Park, Barry Kiernan, Fostra, Tommy Farrell, Marie Kenny, Kiltyreeher, Ian Browne, Maynooth, Aidan Quinn, Newtownbond, Paddy and Niamh Lee, C/O Begleys, Fr. Liam Quinn, USA, Sharon Crowe, Ardnacassa, and John Doherty, Esker. The sellers prize went to Tom McManus. Our next draw will take place on Sunday the 4th January 2015 for a jackpot of €1,900.

Best wishes to junior team manager John Reilly who is feeling slightly under the weather at the minute. We hope to see you back on the side-lines in the new year.

We wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the Reynolds/ McCormack families Ennybegs and Longford and the Kelly/Nolan family Esker and Longford on their very sad bereavements in the last week. At this time we remember all our supporters who passed away during the year.

Finally on behalf of everyone involved with Emmet Og Gaa Club we wish everyone a very happy and enjoyable Christmas and best wishes for 2015. Please God it will be as good for us as 2014.
