Division 1 V Abbeylara
Our Seniors recorded another victory in division 1 on Saturday last in Emmet Park. Both sides started the game on an even footing, exchanging points to see the score at 3 points to 3 at the first water break. Two points from Larry Moran on the restart were nearly cancelled out when an Abbeylara goal attempt deflected off the crossbar and over for a score. A further two points from Moran was followed up by a Ryan Moffatt goal. The midfielder holding off his man on the run to get his shot away and into the net. Two frees converted by Abbeylara and another point from Larry Moran gave a half time score of 1-8 to 6 points. Two points from Eamon Keogh on the restart and four points from Larry Moran gave Killoe a 9 point lead at the second water break, Abbeylara only returning 2 points until then. A goal was needed by Abbeylara and their first attempt was blocked down from Gavin Hughes and out for a 45, which was subsequently converted. Their second attempt on goal followed immediately after, a high ball in to the square was knocked down to a free Abbeylara man who got the goal. Killoe hit back with points from Cian Farrelly, Eamon Keogh and Mickey Quinn to keep the gap at 7 while Shane Fitzpatrick pulled off a fine save to deny Abbeylara a second goal. In the final minutes, Mickey Quinn broke forward and found Niall Farrelly on the edge of the small square who palmed the ball into the net to put the game beyond doubt. Full time score: Killoe 2-18 Abbeylara 1-12. Scorers: Larry Moran 0-11 (2f), Eamon Keogh 0-3, Ryan Moffat 1-0, Niall Farrelly 1-0, Cian Farrelly 0-2, Ronan McGoldrick & Mickey Quinn 0-1 each.
2020 Championship Quarter Final V Longford Slashers
Our Juniors recorded a fantastic win over Longford Slashers in the 2020 Junior Championship Quarter Final on Sunday last in Monaduff after an astounding second half comeback. Longford Slashers dominated the first half with two early scores curtesy of a mark and a point from play. Paul Brady registered Killoes first score by fisting over from a well worked move. Longford Slashers stepped up the pressure, converting almost every shot while David Mimnagh tagged over one point for Killoe to leave the gap at 5 points at the water break. On the resumption, Longford Slashers continued the onslaught, scoring 1-4 without reply. Killoe showed signs of improvement before half time, david mimnagh tagging on another point and narrowly missing a goal chance, while Enda Bracken tagged on 2 frees. With a halftime score of 1-13 to 5 points, Killoe had it all to do and a bit with it, in order to turn things around. Another free pointed by Enda Bracken followed by a point from substitute Tommy Reilly in early the minutes of the second half brought the deficit back to single digits. Killoe pushed hard for a much needed goal but could only manage two points for their efforts, with Longford Slashers hitting two back. Then a minute before the water break Paddy Thompson charged through the Longford Slashers defence and hit a looping shot into Eoghan Smith who scored the much needed goal. Still with a 6 point deficit at the second water break, Killoe threw everything the had at the slashers defence for the remaining minutes. With a point each exchanged, Gerry Carberry went through on goal but his shot went narrowly over the crossbar, another goal was needed. Carberry pointed again and from the resulting kick out, Killoe worked the ball forward and into David Mimnagh who drove it past the Longford Slashers keeper to leave the gap at one point. Another kickout won by Paddy Thompson allowed Killoe to push through again, Terry McCormack slipped inside and scored the equalising point from a tight angle. With less than 2 minutes on the clock, Longford Slashers came on the attack but great defending from Enda Bracken regained possession, while quick passing brought play up the field and Gerry Carberry kicked over a brilliant point to give Killoe the lead for the first time. Another turnover in the Killoe defence allowed for a quick counter attack which reached Seamus McCormack and he struck it over for the games last score. Killoe had done it. Full time score: Killoe 2-15 Longford Slashers 1-16. Scorers: David Mimnagh 1-2, Enda Bracken 0-3(3f), Gerry Carberry 0-3, Eoghan Smith 1-0, Seamus McCormack 0-2, Terry McCormack, Tommy Reilly, Johnny Borland, Paddy Thompson, Paul Brady 0-1 each.
