Our senior and junior teams had important league games at the weekend. First up our junior team faced up to a strong Fr Manning Gaels team in Emmet Park on Saturday evening in their penultimate league game. Going into the game top of the table, a win was vital to ensure we stayed there with only a game remaining. We got off to a very shaky start and found ourselves 3 points down early on. However a fine goal from Gary Connell settled the nerves and left us one up at the break. Some fine defending in the second half coupled with late scores from John Conlon and Seamus Lynch saw us eventually run out winners 1-14 to 10 points. We now have to overcome the threat of Shroid next weekend to capture the Division 3 league title.
On Sunday our seniors traveled to Colmcille, and fielding a very experimental side took on the home team. In game that was evenly matched throughout, a first half Denis McGoldrick goal proved ultimately to be the difference. Final score Emmet Òg 1-11, Colmcille 12 points. Well done to both teams.
This coming week sees our seniors at home to Clonguish in the league on Wednesday evening at 8.30p.m. while on Saturday evening they travel to Granard for a 5pm throw in also in the league. Our juniors travel to Shroid, also on Saturday at 5p.m. with the chance to clinch the Division 3 title. Please do your best to support our teams.
Hard luck to our ladies senior team who were agonizingly beaten by the minimum of margins by Clonguish in the County final on Sunday. Although it was disappointing not to make it 6 titles in a row, nobody begrudges Clonguish their moment in the sun.
As the county finals approach, we are offering flags, bunting, etc for sale to our supporters. All merchandise will be available to purchase on Wednesday evening at Emmet Park during the match or by contacting Geraldine Halpin on 086 6014013.
