Leinster Championship Campaign

Our journey came to an end in Navan, as we were defeated by Meath’s Summerhill on a scoreline of 2-22 to 1-16. The margin of defeat didn’t reflect the balance of the contest, we matched our opponents for long stretches and led at half-time after an impressive first-half display.

We began brightly, with Paddy Kiernan and Paddy Morgan on target as they moved into a 0-6 to 0-3 advantage midway through the half. Larry Moran then struck the opening goal of the game on 26 minutes, palming to the net to push us six points clear, 1-10 to 0-8.

Summerhill responded swiftly with a point and, moments later, found the net to narrow the gap to a single point. We steadied again, and with Moran adding to his tally, they went into the break deservedly in front, 1-11 to 1-10.

The Meath champions drew level shortly after the restart, and although we continued to battle bravely, Summerhill began to find their rhythm in the second half. A flurry of scores from Summerhill and a goal on 46 minutes gave the home side breathing room.

We continued to press, adding five more second-half points, but despite our efforts, Summerhill’s experience told in the closing stages as they sealed a nine-point win and a place in the Leinster quarter-finals.

While the result didn’t go our way, we can take pride in a strong showing that saw us lead one of Leinster’s top sides for much of the contest — a performance full of character and determination that bodes well for the seasons ahead.
